The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning has released a draft update to its accessory dwelling unit (ADU) regulations. When it is adopted by the Board of Supervisors, the new ordinance will implement new state laws on ADUs (also known as ADUs, “backyard homes,” or “granny flats”). The ordinance is intended to facilitate the development and preservation of this source of lower-cost housing, and is one of several policy initiatives underway to increase housing choice in the unincorporated areas of the County.
