“Hi!  My name is Mike Claessens.  My wife, Cindy, and I have lived in La Crescenta since 1988.  We raised two children who attended Monte Vista, Rosemont and CV high school.  They both received excellent educations that allowed each to graduate college and successfully start lives of their own.
I retired from the Los Angeles City Attorneys Office after 32 years and now have a small law firm with two old friends and partners.  I have had a blessed life, part of which includes the opportunity to live in La Crescenta.
I was spurred to run for CV Town Council by the Station Fire two years ago and the resulting flood preparations.  We were evacuated a number of times.  We didn’t know what was going on and it was very difficult to find out when we could return home.  We were frightened and we felt helpless and victimized.  The only information came from the news and out-of-area Sheriffs Deputies who didn’t know very much.
After attending most, if not all, of the Town Council’s meetings over the last year, I have gained a deep respect for the local citizens who serve on the Council and give so much of their time.  I think I can use my background and training to bring some expertise and experience to bear on the issues facing this community.
I am especially interested in improving communication between emergency services and the people who live here and are most affected, and, more importantly, insist that the views and preferences of our residents be considered seriously and acted upon.  That goes for every issue, whether it’s the 710 connection, the Foothill Community Standards District, or open-spaces planning.  I strongly believe that the views and needs of the people in the neighborhoods most impacted should be given first priority and deference. See you around town! Mike”
